WMC hosted covenant Christian Friday night. They game was fast and physical from the start. Both teams applied full court pressure and traded baskets. Covenant made closed out the first quarter with an 13-8 lead. WMC answered in the second quarter and pulled the game to 16-15 when guard Madie Folkema went down with an injury. Folkema battled to get back in the game but the Warriors found themselves down 31-18 at half. Covenants full court pressure stifled the warriors attack and costly turnovers hurt their chances at a comeback. The third quarter finished at 49-32 and a back and forth 4th quarter ended with Covenant on top 58-39. “Coach Kaptein and I have a long standing friendship and I had a great amount of respect for his program and the way his team plays. They are a physical group that plays fast for 4 quarters. We had players step up tonight and get a chance to be thrown into the fire and learn. This was a great opportunity for us to compete against a highly skilled team. I’m looking forward to getting down to their place (Covenant) in a couple weeks to take them on again.” Madie Folkema 21 points 9 rebounds 7 steals Abigail Derdowski 6 points 4 rebounds
