WMC Girls Tennis Shows Growth at Regionals The WMC girls tennis team wrapped up the season last week at regionals with a strong overall performance that reflected the growth and improvement the team made throughout the year. Several flights advanced out of the first round and those who did not advance after the first round demonstrated grit and perseverance in their matches. At 1 Singles, senior Ava Post had a first-round bye, then lost to Muskegon Catholic Central in the second round, although she made her opponent work for every point. At 2 Singles, junior Sophia Fries easily defeated her first round opponent, 6-0, 6-0, but fell to Northpoint Christian in the second round. At 3 Singles, sophomore Hadley Noonan had a competitive match, but after a tough battle Comstock Park won. At 4 Singles, senior Drew Coleman narrowly lost to her opponent from Whitehall. At 1 Doubles, seniors Annalise Bonnema and Meaghan Van Bruggen quickly defeated Kelloggsville 6-0, 6-0, then lost the second round match to NorthPointe Christian. At 2 Doubles, seniors Evie Zenz and Mia De Jonge defeated Muskegon Catholic Central 7-6, 6-2 in the first round, then lost to Grand Rapids Catholic Central in the second round. At 3 Doubles, junior Elisabeth Kenny and sophomore Linnea Larson won their first round match against Grant and then narrowly lost to NorthPointe Christian in the second round. At 4 Doubles, seniors Lauren Olsen and Audrey Kingshott beat Whitehall 6-0, 6-4 in the first round. One of the most exciting moments of the tournament came during their second round match where they battled one of the top-seeded opponents in a thrilling second-round match and came close to pulling off an upset. The effort, resilience, and progress demonstrated by the girls throughout the season were evident at regionals, and the team should be proud of how far they came together.
