WMC Cross Country teams competed at the Portage Invitational on Saturday in what is considered to be a preview of the State Finals. Both teams turned in solid efforts and produced results that are on track with where we would hope to be at this point of the season. On the Boys side, the team finished 10th out of 39 teams, a good showing at a meet with some of the best competition in the state all together in the same race. Owen Sytsema came up with a PR of 16:31 to finish in 25th place out of nearly 600 runners. Eli Morse showed his consistency again this week with his 17:11, 61st place finish. Josiah Scholma (17:16, 69th place), Sam Hwang (18:39, 89th), Ezra Scholma (18:27, 128th), Micah Scholma (18:50, 156th) and Jack Walter (19:27, 214th) all contributed to a team performance that sets us up well for the championship portion of our season. The Girl's team finished 18th out of 36 teams who competed while competing without a couple of key runners - a good showing all things considered! Leah Sneller once again showed that she is consistently running at a high level this year with another PR effort 19:37 to finish an impressive 15th out of nearly 500 runners. Rochelle Liu (21:59, 84th), Martina Choliz (23:58, 176th), Annabelle Walter (24:07, 190th), Evie Folkema (24:21, 199th) , Sophia Gammon (24:51, 223rd) and Rowan VanWoerkom (29:09, 331st) completed the Varsity team at this meet.
