NORTON SHORES—The Western Michigan Christian Warriors played host to Grand Haven on Tuesday night, losing 1-0 and marking their third straight loss in a tough early season stretch. After a scoreless first half, the Bucs knocked in the game's lone goal from a long, lofted shot that 'keeper Colin Van Bruggen tipped off the crossbar; however, the deflected ball fell right into the path of an unmarked Grand Haven forward. The goal just one minute into the second half of the contest held as both teams struggled to generate clean opportunities in the offensive third. "I think we took a big step forward last night in terms of our defensive structure," WMC head coach Ben Buursma said. "Our first couple of games were characterized by our long spells of possession and then being susceptible to quick counter-attacks. Against Grand Haven, our back line did a great job in both transition and handling the pressure from the Bucs' sustained offensive attacks." Grand Haven had five shots on goal to WMC's two. Van Bruggen made four saves. The Warriors will look to notch their first win of the season when they host Mona Shores in the annual Heroes Cup game (honoring the first responders of Norton Shores) on Thursday. +Photo Credits: Brady Proctor
