Varsity vs Fruitport High School Win We closed out the week with a first place team win in a tournament with Fruitport, Reeths-Puffer and North Muskegon where several of our players also took first place in their individual flights. "The boys tennis team played phenomenal tennis across all flights to finish in first place at the Fruitport Tournament Friday! We won several tie-breaks and finished with first place finishes at three and four singles and one and two doubles. Getting the first place finish was definitely a full team effort and all the players on the team contributed to the win today," said Coach Tom Kuiper. Freshman Reed Van Stratt took first in the 3 Singles flight. He defeated Fruitport 6-1, 6-0, Reeths Puffer 6-2, 6-1 and North Muskegon 6-2, 6-0. Junior Cole Huizinga took first in the 4 Singles flight. He defeated Fruitport 6-2, 7-5 and had default wins against Reeths Puffer and North Muskegon. Senior Noah VanWoerkom and Sophomore Caleb Clausing won the 1 Doubles flight, defeating Reeths Puffer in a third set tie-break 3-6, 6-3 (10-2) and Fruitport 6-0, 6-3. They had a default win against North Muskegon. Sophomores David Ritzema and Levi Leffring won the 2 Doubles flights. They defeated North Muskegon in third set tie-break 7-5, 3-6, (10-2). They easily defeated Fruitport 6-0, 6-0 and Reeths Puffer 6-1, 6-1. We also had several other wins at the tournament that contributed to our first place victory. Senior Reid Staal (1 Singles) defeated Fruitport 7-6, 6-3. Junior Luke Vander Wall (2 Singles) defeated Fruitport 6-0, 6-0 and had a default win against Reeths Puffer when that player retired during the match due to injury.
