Coopersville, Mich., Sept. 8, 2025 - The Western Michigan Christian Warriors pulled off a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Coopersville Broncos in a nail-biting soccer showdown on Monday. It didn’t take long for the action to spark—just two minutes in, Tyson Annema got on the end of a long pass from Luke Proctor, giving WMC an early 1-0 advantage. From there, the first half turned into a gritty back-and-forth battle, with Coopersville pressing hard for the equalizer. The Broncos broke through with 23 minutes left in the first half, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to level the score at 1-1. Coopersville continued to press the Warriors, but goalkeeper Colin Van Bruggen came up with some big saves to preserve the tie through halftime. Showing poise and determination during the second half, the Warriors reclaimed control when Braedon Hoffman isolated his deender on the left wing, spun him the wrong way, and delivered an inch-perfect cross to Proctor. Proctor buried his header inside the far post for the the go-ahead goal with 18 minutes left on the clock. "Our guys showed a lot of heart tonight," WMC coach Ben Buursma said. "After going ahead early, the Broncos responded and really gave us fits for the rest of the first half. The boys came out energized and determined for the second half, and made sure we earned a good result. It was a good performance in the end, and our defensive line is really starting to gel." Coopersville held an 8-4 advantage in shots-on-goal over the Warriors, including 5-1 in the first half. Van Bruggen collected six saves in the win. The Warriors (4-3-4; #7 Division 4) will round out the week by hosting Kenowa Hills on Thursday and #15 Division 4 foe Leland on Friday.
