NORTON SHORES — In a showdown of state-ranked programs, the Western Michigan Christian boys soccer team struck early and never looked back. The No. 7-ranked Warriors earned a 2-0 victory over No. 15 Leland on Friday night, using first-half goals from Anderson Leffring and Theo Buursma to set the tone. Leffring opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game. After Braedon Hoffman's cross was headed away from goal, Tyson Annema popped it back into the area and Leffring nodded it home. Buursma followed shortly after with a goal from an attempted clearance that Leffring blocked toward the Leland endline. The score gave WMC a 2-0 cushion that held the rest of the way. The Warriors’ defense locked down the Comets the rest of the match, recording the shutout to secure a key regional win. With the victory, WMC (6-3-4) extends its streak of unbeaten games to 10.
