ALLENDALE - The No. 7-ranked Western Michigan Christian Warriors battled to a 2-2 draw against Division 2 No. 12 Allendale on Saturday, with all four goals coming in a thrilling first half. The Warriors struck first just three minutes into the match when Braedon Hoffman swung in a cross from the left wing that Hudson Fair hammered home with a volley from six yards out. Allendale quickly answered, capitalizing on a failed clearance to scramble in an equalizer amid heavy traffic in front of the WMC net. WMC regained the lead midway through the half when Anderson Leffring’s hustle paid off. The junior forward pressured a Falcon defender’s pass back to the keeper, blocking the clearance attempt and watching it deflect straight into the goal. Allendale, however, leveled the score once more before halftime with a long-range strike that snuck inside the left post past Warrior keeper Colin Van Bruggen. Neither side could find the go-ahead goal after the break, and the match finished 2-2. "We had a lot of really good moments during the game that show how we can deal with high intensity and physical play from our opponents," WMC coach Ben Buursma said. "This was a good test for us we continue to make sure we're moving the ball quickly and picking up our pace and locking in mentally all over the pitch. This was a really strong performance from our mids and forward lines, especially." With the result, WMC (7-3-5) extended its unbeaten streak to 12 matches. Allendale improved to 10-2-1. The Warriors will return home Monday to host Whitehall.
