NORTON SHORES - Western Michigan Christian boys soccer kept its momentum rolling on Saturday, defeating Covenant Christian 6-1 as part of Warrior Weekend festivities. The victory came just one night after WMC volleyball topped the Crusaders, giving the Warriors back-to-back wins over their rivals. The Warriors (10-3-5) wasted no time seizing control, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first 12 minutes. Braedon Hoffman set up Hudson Fair for the opener, then found the net himself with a curling strike inside the far post after receiving a ball from Carter Heimiller. Fair added an assist of his own soon after, slipping a pass to Mason Bonnema for the third goal. WMC’s attack stalled for much of the rest of the first half, and Covenant capitalized on a defensive miscue to cut the deficit before the break. But the Warriors regrouped quickly, adding three more goals in the opening 16 minutes of the second half to put the game away. Bonnema scored his second of the day off a feed from Juan DeJonge, and Tyson Annema delivered a brace with Fair and Hoffman providing the assists. The Warriors finished with a 22-8 shot advantage. Goalkeepers Colin Van Bruggen and Gavriel Modderman split time, making three and two saves, respectively, while the defense was credited with two more stops. The win pushed WMC’s unbeaten streak to 15 matches and capped a 3-0 week that lifted the Warriors to No. 6 in the latest Division 4 state rankings. They’ll return to action Tuesday at home against West Michigan Aviation Academy for Senior Night and the regular season finale.
