NORTON SHORES - The Western Michigan Christian Warriors capped off a near-perfect September (nine wins and two ties) with a dominant 7-0 win over West Michigan Aviation Academy on Senior Night Tuesday. The victory stretched the Warriors’ unbeaten streak to 16 games and sent their two seniors out in style. Senior captain Luke Proctor opened the scoring in the first half, followed by goals from Carter Heimiller and Braedon Hoffman, with Hudson Fair, Oliver DeJonge, and Heimiller supplying the assists. "Our guys came out ready to play and to celebrate these two seniors and help them enjoy the last game on their home turf as high school athletes," WMC coach Ben Buursma said. "For Gavriel Modderman, this is his first year playing with the soccer team, and his energy and encouragement have been phenomenal. And Luke has meant so much to our program for the last four years. He's been a huge contributor not only on the field, but off the field as well with his character and leadership. He's been a two-year captain for us, and he consistently demonstrates what it means to be a Warrior." WMC continued the assault on the Aviators' goal in the second half, connecting for four more scores before the final whistle. Mason Bonnema volleyed in a cross from Hoffman, Tyson Annema scored twice — cleaning up a rebound and heading in a corner for his third straight brace — and DeJonge hammered home the final goal from Bonnema’s pass. WMC unleashed 33 shots on target while limiting the Aviators to just one, with Colin Van Bruggen making the lone save for the shutout. The 6th-ranked Division 4 Warriors (11-3-5) now look forward to a regular-season finale at undefeated Division 2 No. 2 Unity Christian on Friday.
